Our child psychologists work with children who are experiencing emotional, behavioural, or social challenges that affect their mental health and daily life. Through supportive counselling, children learn emotional regulation, communication skills, and ways to manage anxiety, frustration, or stress. Our goal is to help children understand their feelings and build coping skills that support healthy development at home, at school, and in relationships.
Our experienced child psychologists use evidence-based approaches that are adapted to a child’s age and needs. This may include cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, play-based approaches, or art therapy to help children express emotions and process experiences. These therapies are designed to support child development and teach practical strategies children can use in everyday situations.
One Plus One Counselling also offers teen counselling and therapy in Calgary.
In some cases, a formal assessment may be recommended to better understand a child’s emotional or developmental needs. This helps our clinicians identify areas of concern related to child development, learning, or behaviour. With specialized training in pediatric psychology, our psychologists can recommend appropriate supports and create a treatment approach that fits your child’s needs.
Our team works with children across different developmental stages and can also support teens and young adults who may still benefit from child-focused therapeutic approaches. Therapy is tailored to each stage of development so children receive support that matches their emotional and cognitive needs.
Child therapists support children facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, behavioural challenges, learning difficulties, and conditions such as autism spectrum disorder. Our work focuses on understanding the underlying emotional and developmental factors affecting a child’s mental health, and helping them develop stronger coping and emotional regulation skills.
Yes. Parents play an important role in supporting a child’s progress. In many cases, therapy includes guidance for parents and may involve family counselling sessions to strengthen communication and problem-solving within the home. Our team provides practical guidance so families can support their child and build coping skills together.
